unleashed - queensland design on tour 2010
about
qdos awards, presented by the Design Institute of Australia Queensland Branch, is set to hit the road in January 2010 and showcase the work of some of Queensland’s brightest and most influential designers throughout regional queensland.
The exhibition titled ‘unleashed – queensland design on tour 2010’ will travel to six galleries across regional Queensland—Chinchilla White Gums Gallery, Mount Isa Memorial Civic Centre, Quilpie Museum, Gallery and Visitor Information Centre, Emerald Gallery, Gladstone Regional Art Gallery & Museum and The Bundaberg & District Historical Museum.
The exhibition is curated by Kirsten Fitzpatrickfrom
artisan and showcases award winning work from the past two years of DIA qdos awards covering the broad disciplines of Three Dimensional Design, Visual Communication Design, Interior Design and Emerging Student Design.
Over 20 areas of design are represented throughout the exhibition to give a broad appreciation of the exceptional range, depth and quality of design being undertaken in Queensland.
A designer whose work is featured in the exhibition will also travel to each of the galleries and present a public lecture giving insight into their experiences and generating public dialogue.
In conjunction with the traveling exhibition the DIA Queensland Branch is also working with Queensland University of Technology (QUT) and regional secondary schools to deliver a three-day goDesign Workshop Program, to expose budding young students to design methodologies through immersive real world projects that have long-lasting positive impacts on the participants and the community.
It is hoped the program will promote the value of design thinking in regional communities, and inform the integration of design into secondary school curricula across the state, in alignment with the Queensland Government’s
Design Strategy 2020.
