The DIA Queensland Branch works with designers, business and government throughout Queensland to promote and raise awareness of the vast benefits in utilising professional designers. .
We understand the powerful effect design can have on communities and the way we live, and most importantly – we believe that some of Australia's most talented designers are right here in Queensland leading the way in both the private and public sectors.
Good design has the potential to motivate, change our behaviour, and inspire and stimulate us in a myriad of positive ways.
You only have to look at how Queensland and its capital city Brisbane has evolved over the past ten years to know that the design industry is healthy and growing. Even given the challenging times that 2009 presented, the design industry in Queensland remained steadfast, helping to pull the economy out of recession and inject valuable economic development in a slowing economy.
Through the Design Institute of Australia Queensland Branch dedicated and passionate designers run several different events throughout the year. These events aim to inspire, recognise, contribute and provide vision and information to design professionals and ultimately raise awareness and increase the profile of the design profession within the community on a local, state and national level.
The Queensland branch represents all professional design disciplines from interior and graphic designers to industrial and fashion designers. Our vision is to establish Queensland as an epicentre of design innovation and creativity - where the contribution of leading Queensland designers is recognised.

Queensland Design on Show (qdos) is the voice of design excellence recognition in Queensland. This state Awards program, initiated and hosted by the Design Institute of Australia – Queensland Branch, has been actively promoting Queensland Designers and their work since 2002.
The qdos Awards program has grown rapidly since its introduction and is now one of the most dynamic multidisciplinary Awards programs in Australia, attracting an exceptional range, depth and quality of entries from the Queensland design community.
qdos covers the broad disciplines of Visual Communication Design, Interior Design and Three Dimensional Design, and offers an extensive range of categories from Lifestyle Product to Corporate Identity/Branding; Luminaire Design to Built Environment Collaboration.
Overall Awards are given for considerable achievement in Design Innovation and Excellence as well as the Peoples’ Choice Award which allows the general public to have their say on what they consider to be good design.
Launched in 2006, the DIA Queensland Smart State Designer of the Year Award recognises one of Queensland’s top designers every year with a travel bursary sponsored by the Queensland State Government.
Events across the qdos calendar include a four day Judging Program,
Awards Exhibition and Awards Gala Event.

The Design Institute of Australia (DIA) is the voice of professional design in Australia and has been actively improving the community recognition and status of designers since 1947. DIA is the only multidisciplinary organization representing designers from all design disciplines in Australia. The organisation promotes the value of design and designers to industry, business, government and the community. DIA provides a vibrant networking base on a state, national and international level. Through its international affiliations, the DIA links its members with designers in over 40 countries.
DIA Queensland operates several initiatives to promote communication with designers, to provide a platform for discussing relevant industry issues and to assist designers improve business performance including:

The publication series queensland design excellence documents the spirit of the Queensland Design Awards program and archives the achievements of our leading Queensland designers from 2002 to 2006.
